Picking & choosing what goes on your registry is difficult. There are always registry items that the bride & groom forget about and then kick themselves later on.
As someone who loves to host there are always small pieces that I wish I had, but never remember to purchase. We’ve put together a list of Registry Items that, as a hostess, you are bound to love!
The Kitchen
Our first stop on this list is the kitchen. Of course you don’t need a 24-piece matching cooking set to host, but it definitely makes cooking more fun!
Matching cookware and serving plates/platters are just the most fun. From when I was very young, my mom always made me so excited every time she would talk about the matching Le Creuset Colors.
Essentials –
- Stoneware/Cookware Set
- Large Platter
- Charcuterie Board
- Wine Chiller
- Bread Basket
- Tea Towels
Our First pick from the kitchen category is the Le Creuset Chambray 5-piece Stoneware Set. This set comes in a bunch of colors and if you’re lucky, you may be able to find it at the outlets!
I think that the matching sets are perfect for a hostess as it creates the perfect base for the tablescape!
The next pick from the kitchen category is a large platter. My personal favorite is the one above from Pottery Barn, however, any large platter is great!
Having a large serving platter is integral to any hosted event. You can use it for appetizers, a main course, or dessert. I like having one similar to this because even though it has food on it, it still looks beautiful on the table.
If you’re a snack-plate girl, then having a charcuterie board as one of your Registry Items is integral! Mark & Graham’s monogrammed Charcuterie board is both the perfect size & a beautiful choice.
Recently, I’ve been LOVING a monogram, especially since it’s coming back in style. Plus, this is a great way to show off your new initials!!
A wine chiller is a staple if you host dinner parties with alcohol. There are a variety of sizes of wine chillers, from this single bottle wine chiller from Pottery Barn to this beverage tub from Crate & Barrel.
Depending on the size of your space, these are both great options. If you opt for the smaller, it’s very easy to fill your kitchen sink (or another apparatus) with ice and use that as well.
One thing that I always had growing up was a bread basket. My mom would use a fancy linen and line the basket to elevate the serving of bread. This basket from Sur La Table would be a Coastal staple piece in any household.
Paired with these Tea Towels from Quince, this set is both beautiful & subtle. Your guests are sure to love a slice of bread from this bread basket!
The Tablescape
The next stop on the list is the tablescape. Obviously, you can totally use whatever plates and cups you already own (this is definitely more budget friendly). But how much fun is it to have plates that you use for guests!
Growing up, my mom always had fancy placemats and table runners that she would use when guests arrived. It was usually a chore to set the table, but I found it so much fun when I knew we were having guests.
Essentials –
- Table Runner or Cloth
- Charger Plates or Placemats
- Dinner Plates
- Salad Plates
- Stainless Steel Utensils
- Napkins
- Napkin Rings
Depending on the type of table you have at home, that will determine the type of runner/tablecloth you add to your list. A long rectangular table is more suited for a table runner, while a circular or oval table is more suited for a tablecloth.
The Madeline Table Runner from Anthropologie is a tried and true piece for me. I’m a fan of anything in this collection, however, this table runner is a winner.
And again with Quince, I’m simply a fan of anything European Linen. This tablecloth is the epitome of coastal and class. It’s important to remember that you should measure your space, as ill-fitting linens can make a space look frumpy.
As a placemat girl myself, I would time and time again choose to use rattan placemats over a charger, however, everyone has different styles. When creating your tablescape, adding depth is super important, so as long as you have one or the other, you will be okay.
These Whitewashed Water Hyacinth Placemats from Crate & Barrel add a beautiful touch of coastal while remaining very neutral.
Straight-sided dinner plates have been making a comeback recently. It’s becoming a trend to use straight-sided dinner and salad plates when setting a table. However, if you’re morally opposed (or simply don’t like that look), you can opt for a more simple look.
Vintage-looking plates are also trending for dinner and salad plates. The only note to make of these, is that you need to make sure the patterns align or else you can risk the table looking sloppy.
While I’m sure you’ve already added utensils to your registry items, it can be fun to include a different set for your guests. I would always recommend stainless steel utensils as I think the quality is unmatched.
However, you could always opt for something more funky such as a gold set, or a tortoise shell handle set.
Napkins are arguably the most integral part of the entire tablescape. This can be where you chose to add a pop of color, or continue on with the neutral theme. These Chambray Napkins from Tuckernuck are both super fun and on brand with the Coastal theme.
Matching the rattan placemats, these napkin rings from William Sonoma are just a ton of fun. You want to make sure that whatever item you’re adding to the registry is good quality and will last you a long time.
Obviously, no one wants to be repurchasing items in a few years after just 3 dinner parties.
The Home
The Final Stop on this list is The Home! There are a lot of items around the home that we love for hosting, however, not all of them are suitable for a wedding registry.
Home decor is subjective to the people decorating, however, most of the items are fitting for coastal-chic and other themes.
Essentials –
- Candles
- Candle Holders
- Bar Cart Items – Shaker, Bar Tool Set, Cocktail Picks, etc.
Candles are the perfect way to add some height and depth to the tablescape. You can use either pillar candles or tapered candles. My personal preference is using tapered candles, because you can add some height to the table.
However, pillar candles are also beautiful when done correctly. You want to make sure that you have either a tray or glass vases as these candles can ruin your table or runner.
Candle Holders are the way to add height to the table. If you’re using tapered candles, you can vary the height of the holders. These candle holders are some of my favorites because they are handcrafted and look vintage.
I also LOVE these pillar candle holders from West Elm because I’ve never seen anything like them. They’re such a fun way to add some depth into your tablescape.
When adding Bar Cart Items to your registry, you want to make sure that you’re getting exactly what you need. My recommendation would be to add a “kit” to the registry to negate any mistakes.
This MacKenzie Childs Bar Set is a beautiful option, however, you want to make sure that you have the following items: shaker, muddler, strainer, and a jigger. I would also recommend having a juice press and a cocktail spoon.
