Finding statement wedding flowers can be a difficult choice. Whichever flower you chose, is going to be on display everywhere for all of your guests. With so many options of types, colors and seasons, it can be overwhelming.
You shouldn’t have to be stressed about the type of flowers you chose, so we’ve put together our favorites. Below, you can find our 6 favorite statement wedding flowers for your coastal wedding!
The Gardenia
Gardenias are a coastal staple and can be found in several colors. Some of the most common colors for these beautiful flowers are ivory, pink, and red. These can tie into a sunrise or sunset theme wonderfully and can add a vibrant pop of color.
Gardenias are typically found in late-spring to early-summer so they would be in peak season during a May or June wedding. As a statement flower, Gardenias can be rather expensive. To mitigate that cost, many brides choose to include gardenias in their bridal bouquet or a single arrangement.
The Tulip
A classic spring-time flower, the Tulip is a wonderful addition to any wedding happening between March and May. These flowers can range from being more pastel in color, to extremely vibrant. This makes them popular in a variety of themed weddings.
While a single tulip may seem underwhelming, a bunch of tulips in a bouquet or centerpiece arrangement, will look beautiful. They can easily be paired with filler flowers such as baby’s breath or a green, like ferns.
A less expensive choice, the Tulip makes for a great budget flower, without compromising the beauty. Although your florist will source your Tulips for you, it can be a really fun idea to visit a Tulip farm to see what colors you like!
The Peony
Peonies are by far one of my personal favorite statement wedding flowers. Coming in a variety of colors, Peonies are used for many coastal weddings. These flowers can be found in bloom from spring to early-summer. This means that if your wedding is from April to June, you’re in luck!
Unfortunately, the Peony is a highly-sought after flower which makes it incredibly expensive to source. This is due to the maturation time for the flower and amount of resources that go into growing them. Similar to the Gardenia, the Peony can be used as a bridal bouquet, or a single arrangement to save on cost.
The Lily
Another Coastal favorite among many, the Lily is another statement wedding flower that can be used for almost any themed-wedding. Whether your colors are pinks, blues, or greens, there is a color of Lily that you can source.
There are different bloom times for different types of lilies, however, the majority of them bloom from late-May until September, making them the perfect summer wedding flower.
Similar to the season, the pricing for this flower can vary greatly as well. The time of year, where you’re sourcing them from, and the amount, are all factors that go into pricing. For example, if you’re ordering lilies during the summer from a domestic vendor, they won’t be nearly as expensive as an international vendor in the winter.
The Rose
An overall wedding staple, the Rose is often overlooked as a statement wedding flower. Signifying love and beauty, the rose is a beautiful and classy staple for weddings. My personal preference is using white and light pink roses for a coastal wedding.
The Rose can be found in season from May to October, however you can usually find them all year-round. Roses sourced in the winter are typically more expensive than the ones sourced during peak months.
Paired with Queen Anne’s Lace or white Statice can really help elevate the already classy Rose. Roses are right in the middle of the spectrum with pricing. However, they can be affordable as most people tend to use Roses for just the bouquets, not the arrangements.
The Sunflower
Last but not least, the Sunflower. The Sunflower is a classic New England flower that most people think of when they think of the end of summer or early fall. Typically this flower is found in its peak season from July to October, peaking in Late-August or Early-September.
A less expensive choice, the Sunflower is a large staple and more often than not, is found in larger arrangements, rather than a bridal bouquet. However, the smaller varieties of these flowers can make beautiful statement wedding flowers if paired correctly.
I would love to see a bridal bouquet of sunflowers paired with Bells of Ireland or Italian Ruscus!
